Thomas O'Neil Cellars - A Tri-Cities, WA Winery

The Tri-Cities, WA winery is owned by Tom and Tricia O’Neil, who moved to Washington from Michigan to follow Tom’s dream of becoming a winemaker.  Tom’s interest in wine was sparked when his dad brought home a bottle of Chateau Lafite that had been given to him as a gift. They both enjoyed the wine but wondered why it cost $35, an expensive bottle at the time. As a junior in high school, during a school-sponsored trip to Spain, Tom’s love for wine grew and he began to realize why people really got into this stuff.

Wine wasn’t always in the forefront of his life though. He went to school at Western Michigan University earning a degree in business administration.  After graduation, Tom went to work as a technical writer for many years.

Tricia is the one who reminded Tom of his wine dream. She came across a new enology program at Michigan State University and Tom left his long-time career and once again became a student.

After graduating, he received an internship with Chateau Ste. Michelle and then became an assistant winemaker at Milbrandt Vineyards in the Wahluke Slope A.V.A.  The entrepreneurial bug bit him in early 2010 and Thomas O’Neil Cellars was born.
